Mindjet MindManager Map Linker

Create a master map that shows and refreshes content from other maps.
It’s about TIME.  Eliminate reminder emails and phone calls.  Create summary reports quickly.  Simplify updates from your team or colleagues.
MindManager Map Linker pulls the current data values from other maps into a centralized or “master” map.  The master map uses hyperlinks to point to the subordinate maps and extracts the latest data each time the master map is refreshed.
Perfect for managers and executives who desire instant access to the latest information such as departmental summaries, project status, or performance results.  Map Linker is also beneficial to individuals who need to frequently consolidate information from multiple files.

This is a free solution provided by Mindjet Corporation.  Now compatible with Mindjet Connect! (MindManager 8 compatible version).

MindManager 8 compatible version:                                      MindManager Pro 7 compatible version:

System Requirements:

Mindjet MindManager 8 or MindManager Pro 7

Here is a suggestion for an improvement! Add a "Refresh all" button in the Add-Ins section of the Ribbon interface that does the same thing as the keyboard shortcut Shift+F5. I had a hard time figuring out how to refresh all my linked maps and a button in the GUI would have helped me a lot in figuring this out. From there it's easy to figure out the keyboard shortcut as well.

Seems like the Mac version is a step child to Mind Manager - This won't work, nor does the Jet Pack. Since we are running the Mac version, do we get a free Windows version if we have a new Intel Mac that will run windows programs. Come on!

Very useful tool. Is it normal that it closes the linked maps after it refreshes? Also, it would be cool if it didn't re-format the boundary when it refreshes. If I give it color, the color is eliminated after a refresh. thanks for the tool.

Pierre: We're happy you've found it helpful. Your feedback is appreciated. You bring up two good points that will be forwarded as suggestions for a future release. Yes, the solution is designed to close the linked maps after it refreshes. I agree with your comment regarding the boundary color. Currently, the boundary color is set by the color defined in your Map Linker options. Go to the Add-ins tab and select "Map Linker options". Thanks for the suggestions and helping us improve our solutions for you!

This is just what I was looking for....however, Shift + F5 doesn't refresh all linked maps. It does something - a dialog showing a progress bar appears the same number of times as there are linked maps, but the master doesn't change. If I select a specific topic with a linked map and press F5 then it refreshes ok, though only after I've clicked ok on a message box advising me that the linked map will be overwritten. I've not seen any help files - am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.

Henkka: Based on the information you provided, it appears that you may have installed the Map Linker that is compatible with MindManager 8. We've updated this listing to include both the MindManager 8 and MindManager 7 versions. Please uninstall the Map Linker and install the MindManager Pro 7 version listed above. If you experience any issues, Mindjet Support can assist. Got to: http://www.mindjet.com/support/contact/default.aspx Thanks for the feedback.

Is the Map Linker only uni-directional or can you set it up to be bi-directional (i.e. data syncs both ways). I want to be able to edit data in my linked maps from within my master map and have it update the data in the linked maps, but still be able to open the linked maps independently and work on them with the changes being reflected in the master map. Thanks for the work on this much-needed tool.

I've just upgraded to MM8 and installed the MM8 compatible version of Map Linker. While the installation seems to be successful, the add in is not available in the menu. When I try to activate it under MindManager Options/Add-Ins, it gives an error "Unable to load the "Mindjet.MapLinker.8.Addin.1 Add-In. This Add-In will be disabled". Further on, the "Location" field is empty for Map Linker in the Add-Ins screen, so I don't know if this could mean that the installation didn't succeed 100% even if it said so? FYI: The MM7 version worked alright with MM7. I contacted Mindjet online support, but they couldn't help me "as this is a third party solution..."

Well, my issue may have something to do with access rights. When logging in as an administrator, I got it to function, but not with the normal user account. As I didn't have any problems as a normal user with MM7 and Map Linker for MM7, I guess that something is different with the MM8 version, perhaps Windows register access or similar...? I cannot work with MM8 as an administrator as I then have no Internet access (this is due to company security policy).
